Places to visit in Ajmer
Ajmer, a famous city of present Rajasthan, has been famous for its tactical geographical location and hence carries a vast history with it. There are many beautiful locations here that can help one explore the grand past of the land and know the history written by some of the legendary kings. Here are a few spots that one must visit while being here.
1. Brahma Temple, Pushkar:
There are very few shrines dedicated to Lord Brahma of the universe, and it is one of the oldest people around the world, attracts many Hindu pilgrims every year. This temple is mostly blue in color and it can be difficult to get a glimpse of the deity due to the heavy split, when you enter here to offer your prayers, prepare to fight the obstacles running through the crowd. 2. Magazine Museum:
This museum was once the palace of Prince Salim and now has been converted into a museum. If you wish to know more about the history of Rajasthan, this is a place for you. This museum show cases different sculptures which takes you back to the Rajputs and the Mughals. The museum has a fine and vast collection of armors of the old times which are fascinating.
3. Dargah Sharif:
This is the most famous dargah in the name of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. This place is visited by all the people around the world irrespective of the faith. The dargah has two gates namely Buland Darwaza with the tomb of Moinuddin Chishti. Inside the dargah there is a huge mosque where people donate a lot of money which is then distributed among the poor. In the popular practice, a chaddar is carried by people to place over the Holy saint’s tomb.
There is a separate structure which is used by the qawwali wala’s to sing qawalis during the day time, mostly on Fridays. One can see here some utensils used by the Khwaja in past which are considered as much pious.
4. Taragarh Fort:
This fort was built during the Chauhan Dynasty and was the first fort that was built on a hill in Asia. The top of this Fort provides bird view of the entire city of Ajmer. The fort is a unique rectangular shaped and has walls about 4.5 meter tall. It is located very near to the Dargah Sharif and is usually visited by as many people who visit the dargah of the saint also.
5. Anasagar Lake:
It is an artificial lake which was constructed by Anaji Chauhan. Anaji Chauhan was grandfather of Prithviraj Chauhan. This lake was developed in 12th century. The lake is known to join Daulat Bagh which is another tourist spot in Ajmer. To get a close view of the lake, people can go boating. There is a little island in the middle of the lake and people can go there. Those who love to have a beautiful spot for short visit can go there for evening visits.
6. Adhai din ka jhonpda
Adhai din ka Jhonpda was earlier known to be a temple and a Sanskrit college. It was later converted into mosque during the times of Slave dynasty by Qutubuddin Aibak in 1193.
The mosque has fine calligraphic inscriptions which are popular for its double depth. The temple as such has been ruined a lot today, but is still used as a mosque and as a place of worship.
