This beautiful city was established by Maharaja Udai Singh II on the bank of River Banas and in the fertile valley of Girwa. This city has a long history associated with it. Understanding the threats of attack by enemies the king walled the city and had seven gates for the entry and exit. This city has seen a number of battles.
1. City Palace:
City Palace is one of the best examples of architecture and craftsmanship of past in the state of Rajasthan. This palace is located on the bank of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. This palace reflects the Rajput culture and their love to the art in those times. The entire palace is a fairy tale like structure and is one of the known heritage building in the entire city as well as the state.
2. Fateh Sagar Lake:
This artificial lake is located in the north-west of Udaipur and around the Lake Pichola. This lake is named after Maharana Fateh Singh. It is one of the four lakes in the city of Udaipur that supply the water to the city.
3. Lake Pichola:
Lake Pichola is known as one of the largest and oldest lakes out of all the three other lakes in Udaipur. This lake is surrounded by Palaces, ghats, temples and hills from all the sides. Many people from all over the world come to experience the beauty and nature of this lake by taking a boat ride around this lake.
This lake was built in 1362, and later Maharaja Udai Singh was enchanted by the beauty of it and built the entire city of Udaipur around this lake.
4. Sajjangarh Palace:
Situated at the height of 944 meters above sea level over the Mountain Bansdara, this palace is also known as Monsoon Palace. One can view the entire Pichola Lake from this Palace. In the in old times this palace was used by Mewar Kings to watch the clouds during Monsoon. This palace is a must to visit if you are visiting Udaipur.
5. Doodh Talai Musical Garden:
This garden is widely used for a picnic, and it is also famous for its sunset views. It is beautifully crafted with rocks and fountains which add to the beauty of the same. Through Doodh Talai Garden, one can visit the Karni Mata Temple as there is a Gondola (Aerial Tramway) connecting the two.
6. Eklingji Temple:
This attractive temple is situated at a distance of 22 km from Udaipur. It is one of the famous temples located in Rajasthan and is used to worship Lord Shiva.
It is unique, beautiful and one of the reasons for its tourist attraction from all over the world. Here one can see the Shivling from any gate, but he will have the same view.
7. Vintage Car Museums:
This museum is located a few kilometers away from the city. If you are a car lover, this museum is a must to visit place for you as it as an awesome collection of vintage cars and automobiles.

This beautiful lake city has got good road as well as air and railways. The city has got airport as well as railway line where many trains of northern India stops. The roads are also good, and hence one can move by car or bus also. From the capital city Jaipur, this city is 403 km while from Ahmedabad it is 255 km away.
